Náměstí Republiky 5, 111 21 Staré Město, Czechia
The exhibition Divine Stories by Wolfgang Beltracchi at the Prague Municipal House marks one of the most anticipated art events in the Czech Republic this year. Beltracchi—an artist both admired and condemned—is known for his extraordinary role in one of the world’s most infamous art forgery scandals. His painterly intelligence and technical mastery once deceived the most seasoned art connoisseurs, placing his name at the intersection of genius, deception, and redemption.
Convicted of art forgery in 2011, Beltracchi served his sentence before reinventing himself as a painter working solely under his own name. Today, living and creating in Switzerland, he enjoys an international reputation for his original works, which are highly sought after by collectors for their combination of historical reference, aesthetic precision, and intellectual provocation.
In Divine Stories, Beltracchi presents more than eighty works, including monumental canvases and sculptural compositions, many unveiled to the public for the first time. The exhibition explores biblical and timeless themes—temptation, truth, punishment, and redemption—through a vivid reinterpretation rooted in art history and deeply attuned to modern sensibilities.
Beltracchi’s unique visual language bridges the gap between classical European traditions and contemporary critique. His compositions echo the grandeur of the old masters while engaging with present-day moral paradoxes and social realities. Divine Stories thus reads not only as a visual narrative about spiritual conflict but also as a subtle commentary on the nature of authenticity, ethics, and the enduring power of artistic creation.
With this major exhibition in Prague, Wolfgang Beltracchi underscores his position as one of Europe’s most complex and intellectually provocative artists. Divine Stories invites viewers to reflect on history, morality, and the very notion of truth in art—offering a rare synthesis of aesthetic pleasure and philosophical inquiry.
